    The Venues

    Five places, five different nights

    The festival runs concurrently across Historic Canton Street and the Roswell Antique and Interiors Lot, with entertainment carrying into the Town Square, Heart of Roswell Park, and East Alley. Restrooms are available at every venue.

    Historic Canton Street

    Closed to vehicles from Hwy 9 and Magnolia up to Norcross Street, which turns the main spine of the historic district into four hours of pedestrian street. Vendors line Canton and Elizabeth Way, beverage tents run at several points, and the restaurants and boutiques stay open late and push onto the sidewalk. The south end near Rock 'N' Taco is the loudest, densest block of the night and where the food trucks set up; the further north you walk, the more the crowd thins out.

    Antique & Interiors Lot

    At Canton and Webb. Paved, open, and carrying the large stage with a different band monthly, plus a beverage tent, artists, merchants, and nonprofits. When Canton is shoulder to shoulder, this is where you can actually see the band.

    Historic Town Square

    Open lawn, lighter density, room for kids to run while the adults are twenty feet away. This is also the trolley connection back to City Hall parking, which makes it the easiest end to enter and leave with a group.

    A DJ works this end of the footprint, giving the northern side a different sound and rhythm from the live band stages. Good middle ground when you want music without standing in the thickest part of the crowd.

    East Alley & side streets

    East Alley is part of the official footprint, and the side streets hold some of the best rooms in Roswell. Canton St. Social sits on Elizabeth Way, VIN25 on Plum Tree. These pockets stay calm when the main drag fills.

    The closure clock starts at 2:00 PM, not 5:00

    Streets come down in stages so vendors can load in. If you work downtown or park inside the footprint, this is the part that catches people.

    Why this wrecks first-timers

    Alive in Roswell starts at 5:00 PM on a Thursday in metro Atlanta. GA 400 is loading, Holcomb Bridge is stacked, Alpharetta Highway is stacked, and Atlanta Street is moving commuters through the historic district. Now remove Canton Street from the grid: every car that would use it is using something else, at the same moment several thousand people are arriving.     • Leave earlier than feels necessary. To be on Canton Street at 6:00, plan to be parked at 5:30.
    • Do not drive to Canton Street. Drive to your lot. The barricade is not a drop-off point.
    • Park on your side of the closure. Approaching from the south with a lot to the north means a full lap around the event.

    Getting in, and getting back out

    Parking near Canton Street is genuinely limited, and the exit surge at 9:00 PM is the half nobody plans for. Three decisions cover both.

    Parking

    Free lots at Roswell City Hall and the Cultural Arts Center run a trolley to the Historic Town Square. Green Street, the Woodstock Soccer Complex, and East Alley add more, with first-come street parking on Mimosa Boulevard and Hill Street and a handful of private paid lots near Canton.

    • Pick a primary and a backup before you leave the house.
    • Farther out is often faster than circling a full lot.
    • Drop a pin on your car. Four hours later, nobody remembers.

    Rideshare

    Have your Uber or Lyft meet you at the designated site on Mimosa Boulevard. The closest address to give a driver is 37 Magnolia Street, Roswell, GA 30075.

    Do not use Canton Street or Alpharetta Highway for pickup or drop-off. It creates significant back-ups during the event.

    • Dogs are not allowed on the trolley, so plan to walk if you bring one.
    • Open containers stay in the Historic District. Finish it before you get in the car.

    The exit

    At 9:00 PM the music ends and several thousand people decide to leave in the same five minutes. The exit surge builds its own congestion pattern that looks nothing like the 5:30 pattern.

    • Wait twenty-five minutes. Dessert, one more drink, a quieter patio north. Leave at 9:25 and save twenty minutes.
    • Canton Street reopens on the city's schedule, so do not route through it at 9:01.
    • Recheck traffic before you pull out of the space, not after you are in it.

    Food & Drink

    The restaurants are full. Here is what to do instead.

    From roughly 6:30 to 8:30 the restaurants closest to the action are not busy, they are at capacity. Three plays work.

    Play one

    Eat from the street

    Food trucks set up in the Rock 'N' Taco lot, with street vendors and beverage tents throughout the footprint. Eight minutes in line instead of fifty-five waiting for a table, and you stay in the music. For most people this is the right answer.

    Play two

    Eat early or eat late

    Take a table at 5:15 before the wave hits, or wait until after 8:30 when the crowd peels off. Both windows work, and reservations for the early window are smart when a restaurant takes them.

    Walk north

    The closure ends at Norcross Street. North of that line it is the same historic street at a fraction of the density. Ten minutes on foot turns a standing-room evening into a quiet dinner without moving your car.

    Beverage service and the rules people misread

    Beverage tents at several points across the venue sell local craft beer, wine, sangria, and water. The City of Roswell allows open containers within the Historic District, which is a real perk and also the rule that trips people up.

    The Thing Nobody Tells You

    After dark, the street sorts itself by geography

    For the first two hours everybody is mixed together. Then the sun goes down and the crowd separates. For about three hours you can stand in a nightclub atmosphere and walk two hundred yards north into a fine dining one.

    The party

    The crowd runs louder, younger, and denser down here as the night goes on. Packed patios, real lines, music at full volume. By 8:00 PM this end feels close to a nightclub district.

    Walk north

    The evening

    The crowd thins into quieter blocks up here: easier tables, cocktails instead of pitchers. Past Norcross Street you are outside the closure and outside the crush, still in Downtown Roswell.

    When exactly is Alive in Roswell?

    The third Thursday of every month from April through October, 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Seven nights a year, posted by the City of Roswell.

    Is there alcohol at the event?

    Yes, for guests 21 and over. Open containers are allowed within the Historic District, but only alcohol bought at the beverage tents or from restaurants is permitted, and it must be in a plastic container. No outside alcohol, no glass.

    What is prohibited?

    Glassware, open flames, illegal drugs, fireworks, and outside alcohol.

    Are dogs allowed?

    Yes, on a leash, and clean up after them. Dogs are not allowed on the trolley, so if you park at City Hall with a dog, plan to walk.

    Which venue is best for children?

    Historic Roswell Town Square: open lawn, lighter crowds, and the trolley connection. Face painters and balloon artists are on site and many vendors run interactive activities. Do Town Square and the Antique Lot early, hit the food trucks, and head out before the south end turns over around 8:00 PM.

    Where are the food trucks?

    In the Rock 'N' Taco parking lot at the south end of the footprint.

    Are there restrooms?

    Yes. Porta potties are located at each venue and marked on the event map.

    What time do the roads close?

    Elizabeth Way and the Webb entrance to the Antique Lot at 2:00 PM. The Antique and Interiors Lot and Webb Street at 3:30 PM. Historic Canton Street from Hwy 9 and Magnolia to Norcross at 5:00 PM. Reopening follows teardown on the city's schedule.

    Is parking free?

    Several options are, including Roswell City Hall and the Cultural Arts Center lots with trolley service, Green Street, the Woodstock Soccer Complex, East Alley, and first-come street parking on Mimosa Boulevard and Hill Street. Private paid lots also operate near Canton Street. Parking near the footprint is limited, so use the Parking Wizard to pick a primary and a backup.

    Where should my Uber or Lyft pick me up?
